What is the Good Food Organization program?
The GFO program provides members with the tools, resources, training, grants and networking opportunities to inspire and help them build their capacity to not only offer high-quality food programs, but also engage in regional and national actions. The program aligns under the banner of Good Food Principles, which we all aspire to and work toward. Throughout the year, CFCC creates opportunities for members to develop partnerships with other food organizations, share ideas for innovative programming, get strategies that are rooted in social justice and equity, engage in civic action on food insecurity, and deepen their impact within their community.
Benefits of the program
- Peer-to-peer connections with a community of like-minded organizations
- Resources
- Virtual trainings
- Policy, advocacy and campaign materials
- Grant opportunities*
- and more!
*NOTE: The GFO program is not a grant program. There are some grant opportunities that arise, but this is not the focus of the program.
Why do we do it?
CFCC’s mission is to resource and strengthen the community food sector and mobilize with our partners for progressive policy change. We do this by supporting organizations like yours who are carrying the movement forward!
Who should apply?
The Good Food Organization program is for:
- Community organizations or charities with dedicated food programming. Your organization could identify as a food bank, social service organization, First Nations council, poverty reduction organization, health or environmental organization.
- Organizations that offer or plan to offer programming that focuses on food access, food skills, education, advocacy and engagement.
- Organizations that connect with and are aligned with the Good Food Principles.
What is the membership cycle?
Membership renews on an annual basis. Each fall, we invite current GFOs to renew their membership for the coming year and invite new organizations to join the program.
Who are our members?
Since its creation in 2014, the GFO program has grown from 25 organizations to 400 organizations across Turtle Island, including partners from coast to coast to coast in Canada, as well as a few members in the United States and Australia.
Our diverse and growing network includes food security organizations, health centres, food banks, teaching farms and anti-poverty groups that are committed to offering impactful community food programs based on principles of health, empowerment and respect.
